Is Ask My Practice built for HIPAA?
Yes. Ask My Practice only asks Open Dental for totals, such as production by month. Open Dental adds up the totals inside your practice, so patient records never reach us. We never see or save the questions you ask, and there is no patient data to share with ChatGPT or Claude.
What does Ask My Practice store?
We store your account, your encrypted Open Dental key, your billing details from Stripe, and a log of every statement we send to Open Dental. We never store patient data or the questions you ask.
Does the AI see patient names?
No. Every answer is a total, like production by month or crowns by procedure code. ChatGPT and Claude never receive a patient name, chart, or record.
Do I need ChatGPT or Claude?
Yes, or Grok. We have setup guides for all three. If you use a different AI app, email [email protected] and tell us which one.
Does it change anything in Open Dental?
No. Access is read only. Nothing is written, edited, or deleted.
What do I need in Open Dental?
Your office must run the eConnector, which most offices already use for eServices. During setup you paste a customer key in Open Dental at Setup, Advanced Setup, API. Then click Add Key, paste the key, and check Enabled.
What if the eConnector stops?
Questions about that office can't be answered until the eConnector runs again. Open Dental alerts the office when the eConnector stops.
Does Open Dental charge me for the API?
No. Ask My Practice pays Open Dental's API fee. Your cost is $49 a month for each office.
How is it different from my dashboard?
A dashboard shows a chart you read yourself. Ask My Practice gives your AI app the exact numbers from Open Dental. The AI uses those numbers to explain what changed, why, and what to check next. It costs $49 a month for each office.
Can my office manager or accountant use it?
Yes. Share access with an office manager, bookkeeper, accountant, or consultant. Answers include totals only, so no one you share access with sees patient data.
Is it affiliated with Open Dental?
No. Ask My Practice is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Open Dental Software Inc. It works with Open Dental through its published API.
